Our Seasons in La Crosse Wisconsin offer family photographers a whole new backdrop to capture your memories in!
Each season in our beautiful driftless area brings with it new beauty and a whole new backdrop for family photos. Depending on your taste and the ages of your kids a season you may have never considered may be an awesome choice for your family photos this year.
Winter Family Photos
Winter with it's perfect reflector (the snow) creates a clean white background for family photos. My choice for these sessions is always jewel tones that pop off the snow and create beautiful contrast. Winter is cold in Wisconsin as we all know, so booking in winter means two things.
First you need to be flexible, we want snow and a 30 degree day. This means I do my best to work with you to get those two things working together the best we can to make your session a winter wonderland while not freezing you!
Second these sessions I only recommend for families with older children or couples. Most kids under the age of 14 want nothing to do with taking their coats off and smiling in the cold (even though we all know trying to get them to wear a coat to school is like torture). This means a hard session for littles, so I always recommend this type of family session for only those with older kids!
Spring Family Photos
You guys, spring is one of my most favorite seasons to shoot in. Especially for younger kid families who want the look of fall with kids not trying to put on their jackets! When the sun starts to feel warmer (yes I mean 40 degrees) kids instantly are ready for shorts and no jackets. This makes spring the perfect time to capture happy kids who want nothing more than to be outside. But wait there's more awesomeness to spring family photos.
Spring has the benefit of looking like two separate seasons. Early spring, when the grasses are still brown and dead easily can be mistaken for fall. While late spring the little flowers are blooming and the green grasses are popping through. This can create the true spring colors most families are wanting to capture when they think spring.
Whichever your choice, late or early spring, it is a fabulous season to capture photos of kids ages 6 to 14!
Summer Family Photos
Summer family photos, the grass is green, the wildflowers are everywhere and the warm temperatures mean everyone is happy (except for the occasional dad who, wearing jeans means a hot 30 minute session).
Summer is for all ages, birth on up! Summer color palletes can vary depending on your colors in your home and what you would like to showcase. I am always happy to help with the fashion choices and find the perfect colors to match the greens of summer!
Fall Family Photos
Fall, the season everyone clamors to get their family photos done. There are two "color palettes" to this season. In early fall there are the colorful leaves and in late fall there are the browns and tans of dead grasses and bare trees. Both of these times in fall come with their own benefits.
Early fall is favorite for many families, it's the time they annually renew their photos to get ready for Christmas photos and it marks another year on their calendar. The colorful leaves create a vibrant portrait and absolutely shine on acrylics for the wall (my favorite) and it can still be relatively warm on occasion making it easier for all ages.
Later in fall we get the gorgeous browns (the reason why I love early spring photos). This color palette means the very popular boho and earthy color palette is a fabulous choice. However, late fall in Wisconsin can be unpredictable. It can be cold and rainy or warm. We really don't know what kind of late fall we'll get and this means it can be a tricky time for kiddos. Instead of 40/50 degrees feeling warm, it feels cool in comparison to the heat of summer they are leaving behind. This can lead to unhappy kiddos, scrunched up shoulders to try to stay warm and bright pink noses. If you love this part of fall I recommend you give early spring a try!
La Crosse Wisconsin has beauty in all seasons and offers its family photographers a collection of backdrops throughout the year all in the same locations.
What season is speaking to you for your family photos? Do you have little kids and need the warmth? Are your kids old enough to capture the jewel tones against the beautiful clean background of white snow? The beauty of living here is in our four seasons, I encourage you to try a new season this year for your family photos with a whole new color palette!
