10 Props To Bring To Your Senior Portrait Session
Your Senior year is a huge milestone in your life—one that deserves to be captured with professional portraits. There are so many facets to creating an amazing outcome to your senior photos, from the photographer that you choose, the clothing that you wear, and even just the props you bring along! Props are a small but perfect way to help your personality shine through in your photos, a chance to show the world who you are and what you’ve accomplished and maybe even where your headed!
There are lots of props you can bring to your senior portrait session that will help add to your session, but here are a few of my favorites!
1. Sports jersey, equipment, and medals
If you play a high school sport, or are involved in any kind of activity, bring along your jersey or uniform and some of the equipment you use to your senior session. Athletes, band members, clubs, they all put in lots of hours to the passion that they love. Bringing these along helps to document this time in your life and the activities that dominate your time as a senior and probably for the last decade of your life.
2. Musical instrument
Band isn’t just playing an instrument anymore, and maybe your interests are more musical in nature. Why not take a few photos with the instrument you play? These images can range from dramatic to simple and always turn out beautifully. They are a great reminder of your skill and the many years you’ve dedicated to your musical study.
3. Books or art materials
Are you a straight-A student, do you love to read, is art your thing? Bring along some of your study materials to show off your academic side or just bring along a good stack of your favorite books! If art is your thing, bring along your median and all the materials you use to work in that median. These can truly display who you are and your interests in this time in your life.
4. Four-legged friends
Whether you love dogs or horses, there are a variety of ways to include your pet in your senior pictures. I never shy away from a dog at a session, I’ve even had a show cow or two, and horses and their people have a whole other level of relationship. These relationships are so important to include in your senior session. Pets, unfortunately, do not live forever and documenting how important they were to us is truly a memory you will never get back.
5. Personalized signs
A sign announcing your graduation year is a great prop to include in your senior photos. These photos make for fun graduation announcements and give you a chance to have a little more fun! Think inflatable balloons in your graduation year or the word GRAD, these would make a fabulous announcement for your part at the end of the year! And if a cap and gown session at the end of the year will not be in the books, ask a previous years graduate if you can borrow theirs to include that "I finished look" into your session.
6. Balloons or confetti
If you want a splash of color in your photos and a whole lot of fun, consider bringing along some balloons as props. We can even do a confetti toss! Both of these props are a great way to add pops of color to your images and a little something different. (If bringing confetti it’s super important to bring along a mini broom or way to pick it up. It’s super important here at Lemonade Photos that we leave our environments exactly as we found them so that others can use the space as well!)
7. Accessories
Hats, scarves, sunglasses and other accessories are a great way to add variety to your photos, allowing you to get multiple looks without having to change clothes. Show off your personality with a favorite accessory—maybe even one featuring your school mascot or colors! Think fun sunglasses in your favorite color, a cute cowboy hat giving a nod to your love for country music or definitely a pair of special shoes!
8. Your vehicle
Do you love your car? Let’s include it in your session! There are so many great ways to show off your baby and you sweet style!
9. Career goals
If you already know your major or career plans, showcase it in your senior pictures. Show off the tools of your future trade documenting your dreams and hopes for the future!
10. Suitcases
Finally, if traveling is in your future, include some luggage in your photos to show off how you’re going to take the world by storm! Don't forget some fun stickers from all the locations to cover your suitcases with!
Ok Seniors, sound off, what do you plan to bring to your session to make it extra special? Be sure to discuss all your props with me so I can do my very best to plan very cool and unique ways to incorporate them into your session!
